Story
On Sunday 1st November 2020 Ruby was knocked down by a car in Ollerton, Nottinghamshire. It was a tragic accident and no one's fault. Ruby sustained a broken pelvis (left and right side) as well as a ruptured bladder, spleen and liver. Last night Ruby underwent emergency surgery where she received a blood transfusion and her spleen was removed. Once she has recovered from this, she will then have her pelvis repaired.
Ruby lives with my son's Dad (Scott). We got her from rescue kennels in 2014 when she was about 5 months old. She's such a lovely, sweet natured dog and has always been fantastic with our son, Freddie. Freddie is now nearly 5 and sadly, was there when the accident happened and is understandably upset and worried about Ruby.
Ruby has always been insured, but unfortunately the insurers will only pay out upto £2,000 per injury/accident. Vets estimate that the bill will be around £9,000 (they are confident that they can "fix" Ruby and that she'll have a good quality of life post-operatively). Ruby is 6 years old and a small breed dog with plenty of years ahead of her. Not going ahead with the operations simply isn't a consideration - she's part of the family and Freddie's little side kick.
Scott is doing what he can to try and raise the funds (he doesn't know I'm doing this), but £7,000 is a massive amount of money to find. Scott is self employed and like many, has been affected by Covid-19. With this in mind, I've decided to set up this page to hopefully try and help them out a little. Even if we get £100, it'll help and take some of the pressure off. Please don't think that any donation is too small - every little bit really will help.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, please share if you can.
Best wishes,
Lucinda x

4 years agoRuby came home yesterday after 2 weeks at the vets! She's doing really well but she will need daily physio for 12 weeks to get her legs strong again. She's currently only walking with support, but this will improve with physio. Her muscles are weak and her bones need time to heal. Thank you everyone for your donations. I set the target as £7,000 as this is how much the family need, but didn't expect to get this much! It's taken a massive pressure off everyone. Freddie is so happy she's home and told me he had dreams about Ruby last night <3

4 years agoJust a little update on Ruby the superstar! Scott went to see her at the vets yesterday and took her favourite cuddly turtle :) She's now had all 3 of her operations and is slowly beginning to perk up a bit. The vet is really amazed at how well she's done considering how ill she was. She is sitting up using her front legs but is yet to weight bare on her back legs. She's also starting to eat a bit more so that will help too. They anticipate that she will be with them for the rest of the week. I'll update again once she's home! Thank you <3
