Machines in the hospital are currently 20 plus years old and in need of updating. Current machines often stop and need to be reset so dialysis can take 6-7 hours instead of 4 hours, 3 days a week. New machines would mean much less time spent in hospital for people who have to commit such a huge part of their lives to dialysis.

Dialysis isn't just for diabetes although at least half are. People can go into renal failure for a variety of reasons including being in an accident, infection, high blood pressure or cholesterol so at any point there is the possibility that anyone may need dialysis.
