Story
Let’s replace Maple Road’s lost trees
I watched with sadness the other week as three trees on Maple Road, Bishopston, Bristol were felled. This is in addition to two other trees that were removed previously and have not been replaced.
They were diseased and I accept they had to go but I knew that, as with so many other things, the Council has no funding to replace them. They do however encourage sponsorship.
It struck me that unless we, the residents and neighbours of Maple Road, do something, over time our road will lose all its trees - and that would be a crying shame.
It costs £295 to sponsor a tree. There are five trees missing on Maple Road. It will cost £1580 (including JustGiving fees) to replace them all.
I am hoping that my neighbours, both in the road and surrounding area, share my concern at the loss of our trees and are able to make a donation. With over 100 houses in the road, if everyone could chip in a little, we’d hit the target.

I'd be so grateful if you could support this appeal. Thanks

6 years agoAll 5 trees have been replaced on Maple Road. I'm pleased as punch. I've closed the appeal and refunded people the money they donated. Thanks again for supporting the appeal and giving so generously.

7 years agoWe've spoken to someone at the Council. They confirmed what we had been told - that funding has been secured from the Highways dept. But when we asked if that was definite, they said, "nothing is definite until the trees are in the ground"! They are hoping it will happen in this planting season (by March 2018). In the light of this uncertainty, I propose we pause this appeal until March 2018 and see if the trees are planted. If not, I'll reinvigorate this appeal and we'll aim for the following planting season. Hope that's OK with everyone.

A lot of older residents don't use the internet. Is it worth doing a doorstep collection as well?
