On 10 October 2021, I will be running the Manchester Marathon - the furthest I'll have ever run. However, each kilometre is only a fraction of the distance that many in Chiapas, the poorest state in rural Mexico, have to travel in order to reach a medical clinic. Through this run I'd love to raise much-needed funds for Compañeros en Salud, an incredible Mexican health charity. I worked there as a health economist in the summer of 2018, and they now urgently need £2500 to buy oxygen tanks for their dedicated COVID-19 unit in a country with only 33% of the population vaccinated.

This area has been terribly affected by COVID, yet the medical team and community healthcare workers built a new ward and continued to provide lifesaving support to COVID and non-COVID patients alike through this time.

Their Right to Healthcare programme delivers unbelievable health improvements for those most in need. My experience working with them inspired me to pursue my own medical training upon returning to the UK - now I hope to support their work in Chiapas from afar.
