Story
On Remembrance Sunday (13th November), Luke and MJ from Airborne Fit are revisiting a past challenge to raise awareness and funds for men’s mental health and this time, in the hope of making a powerful statement about men’s mental health, they will be joined by fellow men of Airborne Fit.
Sharing 60kg in weight in their rucksacks (other men can choose how they share the weight), the men will walk 38 miles together across Suffolk.
Over 16 hours of walking and more than 80,000 steps in that time. All with extra weight. Because men across the world are carrying more weight on their shoulders by suffering in silence.
With Luke an ex Parachute Regiment Soldier, the route will see the group pass as many local war memorials as possible as a mark of respect for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝟔𝟎𝐤𝐠? The statistics around male suicide today are hugely worrying and upsetting.
𝐖𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝟔𝟎 𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝.
Something has to change. For this challenge, we want men to come together. To be united. To walk side by side. To share the load.
Too many men; our mates, dads, husbands are suffering with their mental health alone and in silence. We want to show men it’s ok to open up. To share how they are really feeling and how they are really doing. To talk about stuff that really matters. Stronger social connections can reduce the risk of suicide.
Let’s be men of more meaningful words. We all need to dig a little deeper to help prevent more men reaching crisis point… and our Airborne Fit men will certainly need to dig deep on this challenge.
And lastly, although we are asking men of Airborne Fit to join us, we wholeheartedly understand mental health crosses genders. It has no prejudice and therefore, we will be raising funds for mental health charities and causes in Suffolk.
