Story
This year I'm turning 30. Reaching the end of my 20s, I've been taking time to reflect on my life so far. It has had ups and downs, good days and bad. And yet here I am. Having survived many difficulties and thrived to accomplish my dreams. I feel truly blessed and fortunate to be where I am, and to be surrounded by incredible people. So for my 30th, I'd like to take the opportunity to give to those who are perhaps less fortunate than I am. I spent a long time deciding where and who to give to and have decided on three charities that address three causes that are close to my heart.
The first is Bexley Mencap. Working in Bexley I have seen first hand the dedicated work of the team at Bexley Mencap. The team are passionate and devoted to improving the lives of people with learning disabilities in the local area, and working with users of the service I see how much of a difference it makes in helping people feel connected. Bexley Mencap regularly run various groups and events that give local people with learning disabilities and their families support, creative outlets and opportunities to grow, develop and learn.
The second charity I have chosen are the White Helmets. If you are as distressed as I am seeing the refugee crisis and the trouble in Syria, you will probably understand why. No one deserves to live in war, chaos, dispute and violence. The White Helmets are out on the streets in Syria, rescuing people, providing aid and medical support. And they do so fearlessly.
The third charity are the Samaritans. They offer a 24 hour helpline to anyone in distress, who feels hopeless and to those who feel that life is no longer worth living. They provide an empathetic ear and support to many who are at their lowest. Personally knowing people who have volunteered for the Samaritans, I am awe-struck by the dedicated work they do.
I plan to split any money raised into three equal parts to donate to each of the three charities/causes.
Thank you for reading.
