    Story

Blind Sailor Mark Austen won Silver with the Great Britain Blind Sailing team in 2017. The team also won the World Championship title at the 2017 World Blind Sailing Fleet Racing Championships in Sheboygan on Lake Michigan USA. “When I was selected to sail in this class of yacht two years ago my ambition was to sail for Great Britain and represent my country. Sailing at the World Championships was a dream. Now I’m part of a World Class team and have a Silver Medal”.

My goal for 2018 is to represent GBR Blind Sailing at International and World championship events. I now aim to raise the £3,300 to enable me to attend eleven monthly training sessions held at UKSA in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

Due to a Road Traffic Accident, which left him with less that 30% useful sight in only one eye and other complications, Mark is unable to work. British Blind Sailing does have its own JustGiving page. However, the GB Blind Sailing Team have no other external help or support and each competitor has to fund all of their own expenses for training in the U.K. and when racing in National and International Blind Sailing events abroad. Mark raises the money by playing his Saxophone at Private Functions and Busking, he also raises money for various other charities averaging £2,500 pa.

Mark is now hoping to raise funds for himself, with encouragement from his family and friends. Mark wants to work towards his own personal ambitions and be selected for GB team for future events.

Please be as generous as Mark himself has been in donating to other good causes.

    Thank you for your support.

Last training dates 23rd to 25th February were carried out in sub-zero temperatures! The team looked at Match Racing. We had work shops on race starts 'preparation and the 7 minute countdown', tactics, lay lines/transits andteam building. I sprent an hour on the water each day with an instructor.
