I am from Zimbabwe and I have been selected as one of the volunteers for a charity organisation called Raleigh International and I am supposed to go to Malaysian Borneo and volunteer my services as an Administrator. Borneo is one of the world’s most mega-biodiverse areas, and approximately half of the Sabah region is rainforest. Many of Sabah’s rural communities are marginalised and they lack access to basic services. Nearly half the population do not have access to a reliable and safe water supply yet drinking contaminated water can lead to waterborne diseases such as Cholera, Guinea worm disease, Typhoid, and Dysentery. It is also sad that nearly a third of the rural population live in poverty and most of them lack access to education. According to studies, deforestation is posing a major threat to Sabah’s biological diversity with almost 20% of its rainforest lost in the last quarter of a century yet biodiversity is fundamental to our planet’s well-being. Raleigh International alongside volunteers, communities and partners, work to conserve biodiverse areas and further scientific research into the benefits of biodiversity. I would like to contribute to this great work by volunteering as an Administrator on the autumn, 2017 mission to Borneo and I am supposed to start on the 18th September 2017. As a Volunteer Administrator I will be responsible for the day-to-day management of office operations at field-base in Borneo, including all necessary paperwork to ensure that humanitarian work runs as smoothly as possible. I will also be in charge of communications related to the smooth floor of the expedition. My fundraising target is $5300. The funds I will raise will be used for my flights to Borneo as well as all acquire all necessary equipment and stationery that I would require to fulfil my duties as a Volunteer Administrator. The Funds raised will also help me with my food and accommodation. I really need your support to be on this mission.
