Story
We are a group of 10 emerging artists with a genuine and burning passion for making new and innovative contemporary theatre to inspire and intrigue people from all walks of life. We are looking for small donations to go towards the cost of taking a well worked piece of collaborative performance to Gent in Belgium. The piece is called Martinis on the Hill, and is a highly idiosyncratic response to watching and re-watching the classic horror movie The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock. This visually intriguing performance has already captivated audiences of both the Axis Arts Centre, Crewe, and HOME theatre in Manchester and the company would love for this to be a continued impact. The aim is to re-work this piece, under supervision of Mole Wetherell, Artistic director of Reckless Sleepers, and ultimately perform the piece as a double bill in Gent alongside a piece devised by students very similar to ourselves. The past few years have seen detrimental cuts to arts council funding in the UK which has inevitably had a negative impact on opportunities for cultural engagement for many people in the arts industry. We are a generation who want to take hold of every opportunity that comes to us and so performing this piece abroad is something we do not want to compromise on. Financially this project is challenging and so donations of any amount are greatly appreciated by every member of the company.
