Urgent Masjid Construction Appeal - Philippines

These brothers are stuck! they started building their masjid by relying on outside help, but the money has ran out so we are turning to the public to help finish their masjid off. Some of the families are struggling to provide for their own families, so building a masjid for prayers and islamic education is only possible from outside help. (More detailed information is below)

Background

Several years ago, roughly one hundred muslim families left their homes and fled from their home town in Mindanao to escape the on going conflict between the Philippine government and various rebel groups. They settled in the city of San Jose Del Monte, hoping for peace and security and a fresh start. They requested the authorities to allocate them some space for a Masjid, but were declined, but alhamdu lillah, one local brother Amin Dumlas, offered them his house.

Current Challenges

As the conflict in their home town escalated, more families have now joined them scattered in the vicinity, leading to a total of approximately 400 families. The old house was no longer fit for purpose. However, with very little income, with our brothers and sisters struggling to provide for their own families, there was little chance of things changing.

Our Response

When brother Mohammad ‘Umr visited the families this year, he couldn’t help but want to change the conditions of the muslims there. Something had to be done. A believer does not leave other believers in a time of need. Hence, he made the intention to help extend their masjid so there was space for everyone at Jumma’, space for teaching islam to children, women, and reverts.

When returning to the UK in September, he organised some brothers to begin fundraising for the masjid and alhamdu lillah they have already raised a total of approximately £5,400. This has meant our brothers in Philippines could renovate the first floor of the masjid, however, funds to buy materials have now ran out, and the masjid building is yet to complete the second and third floor.

We are turning to you to help with the remainder. Our brothers do not have help from within the country, and are depending on us to complete their Masjid. We only need just over £6,100 to complete the second phase, and another £14,286 to complete the third floor. So for around £20,000 we could give these brothers a place for islamic education, prayer, and livelihood development. Given the cost of building Masaajid here, this is insignificant.
