    Story

    Nathan Stevens, Talent Officer, Disability Sport Wales, met up with Mathew in North Wales and invited him down to Cardiff, 20th February 2016, to be officially classified train and develop within sports with a view to being accepted onto the Paralympic squad for 2020 games. Mathew has been officially classified as T35/F35.

    Shot training

    Mathew has powerlifting training Brailsford Centre, Bangor

    Wednesday evening 7-8 pm, commencing March 2016, with Tiffany Brannan, Business Support Officer Weightlifting Wales.

    Mathew trains in Powerlifting himself at Canolfan Brailsford Monday, Friday and Sunday

    PB 14.3.18 - 86 kgs

    Competed in Para Power lifting competition on the 2nd October 2016 in Stockport, achieved first lift 55 kg and second lift 60 kgs

    The lifting league will be held at HAWFC in Holyhead – 17th December - lifted 70 kgs

    English Weightlifting Championships 2017, Stantonbury Theatre, Stantonbury, Milton Keynes, MK146BN United Kingdom, 21st January 2017 - 22nd January 2017 - lifted 73 kgs

    Mathews’ total supervised training hours 7 hours per week , unsupervised training 3 hours

    As well as competing in the above, Mathew has also registered with CP sport 2016/17 CP sporting events, Stoke Mandeville x 2, Gateshead, Doncaster and Nottingham, the two furthest venue, Stoke and Gateshead are a four and a half drive from our location

    Bangor Para Powerlifter, Mathew Williams, recently featured in S4C documentary Chwaraeon ‘y Dyn Bach. “Games of the little man” https://www.bbc.co.uk/…/p05s3…/chwaraeon-y-dyn-bach-pennod-2 Math screening at 15.22 - 23.41 The programme shows Math training in both Shot in Wrecsam and Powerlifting in Brailsford Centre where Math hits a lifetime PB of 85kgs bench whilst being filmed.

    Math also competed, Welsh National Championships, Cardiff, winning Silver medal, benching 74kgs.

    Mathew was shortlisted 1 out of three, for best Emerging Athlete Disability Sports Wales 2016, black tie event, Vale Hotel, Cardiff, 27th January 2017

    Mathew awarded CP sports Athletics Series Junior Male Field athlete of 2016

    Mathew awarded Menai Track and Field senior athlete of the year 2016

    Mathew has been selected for the Parapowerllifting Welsh Squad 2016
