    Story

In 2005 Martin was diagnosed with Mycosis Fungoides, a type of T cell lymphoma. He has since then received treatment but with very little progress. During this time Martin has also suffered from type 2 diabetes, heart failure, hyper tension, atrial fibrillation and macular oedema of both eyes.

Most recently though Martin was diagnosed with pyoderma gangrenosum of the right leg (Jan 2018). Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare, destructive inflammatory skin disease of which a painful nodule or pustule breaks down to form a progressively enlarging painful ulcer. It's not contagious so can't be transferred from or to another person (More detail can be read on the NHS webpage - https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/pyoderma-gangrenosum/). Due to this medical condition treatment of previous issues were stopped. Unfortunately due to the severity of the right leg and to prevent any further complications the right leg had to be amputated (Mar 18). Having only just mentally come to terms with the amputation Martin has now been diagnosed with the same condition in his left leg (May 19), not surprising Martin and the family are devastated. Martin awaits a treatment plan but fears the worse after having lost one leg to the condition. The thought of amputation to the second leg because of the same medical condition is just heart breaking. A much needed vacation in June has now also been cancelled due to not being able to travel.

Martin remains his positive, upbeat self, and is determined to make as much progress as possible. Martin is a mentally strong character, he has been supported by the family each day since 2005 but it’s becoming increasingly harder physically, mentally and financially. Martin and the family have unfortunately suffered from no fault of their own but they keep their heads held high and take each day as it comes.

It’s time Martin had some good luck. Please help Martin, no matter how small with a donation to make life that little bit easier and more enjoyable. Donations will go towards disability equipment for around the house and to make manoeuvrability a little easier, gaining back some of that independence that Martin thrives on. Currently, Martin has limited disability equipment around the house, for example Martin has no stair lift and Is now unable to go upstairs. There is no toilet down stairs and his bed has had to be moved down stairs for ease. He needs 24 hr care and specially adapted equipment. Money will go towards mobility improvements to Martins home, wheelchairs, specialist care etc.

Having been struggling for a long period with treatment and illnesses I want to help and support Martin, he deserves a little luck and by raising money for him this will help towards purchasing the items that we take for granted. As technology advances and new equipment becomes available, we want to ensure that Martin is always in a position to purchase any equipment that would facilitate his independence.

Over the coming months we will be planning numerous events to raise funds for Martin – linking back to this page. I have just completed a 40 mile run in 8 Hrs (Ridgeway40 11 May 19) to start the fundraising off. We kindly ask for you to donate what you can, share this page, and participate where possible to help reach our goal together.

Every donation is appreciated, and will go directly towards helping Martin recover and live a fulfilling life.

    Thank you in anticipation.

Great to see my Bro tonight at Dads charity night down the Goring Social Club. £670 raised from a raffle for a further charity, Helen House Hospice (Dads chosen charity). Martin was very ill recently in Hospital (discharged 2 days ago) but still managed to attend the evening and show his appreciation for running 100 miles last weekend. A very emotional Martin tonight. It doesn’t matter what life throws at him, this man just keeps giving. Always smiling and always positive, unbelievable. 💪

Centurion Autumn 100miles complete, now if that’s not worth a sponsor what is?! That was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, the weather was horrendous which made the routes so difficult to run on. Never less 102 miles ran in 26.34hrs 💪. Every mile was for Martin, please support and share, any donation is much appreciated.

Running the Autumn 100 miles on Sat 12 Oct at 0900hrs in Goring on Thames and within the surrounding areas. 28 Hrs deadline. This is a huge challenge and will be very demanding especially having never run over 66 miles before. Every mile will be for Martin. Martin was going to join me at the end (so I could use his wheel chair!) but unfortunately he is back in Hospital having some assessments and treatment. Please continue to support, every donation is appreciated and helps that little more.
