With no concern for slow over rates, Bathford Cricket Club’s Matthew Hunt will attempt to bowl his way into the Guinness Book of World Records on the eve of the new season.

On Sunday 24 April, Hunt, 32, will start his attempt at Bath Cricket Club and finish at the club’s Wynne Wilson Memorial Ground to the east of the Georgian city, having covered 6.1 kilometres.

For his attempt to be valid, Hunt has to bowl a legitimate delivery in an actual cricket match. A team from neighbouring village Bathampton will provide the opposition on what is hoped will be a history-making day.

“The motivation is to raise funds for the RUH’s (Royal United Hospital in Bath) Forever Friends Appeal and the club that I love,” said Hunt, who has been playing for the Wiltshire League side since he was 13.

“We aim to split all funds raised 50/50 with the Forever friends appeal at the RUH Bath.

“I love a challenge, and running up Bathford Hill in the latter stages will certainly be challenging.

“I just hope I don’t deliver a no-ball at the end of it. Imagine the stick I’ll get!”
