Weʼve raised £1,335 to help St Mary’s Marden and St Michael’s Bodenham recover from flooding
- Funded on Wednesday, 17th June 2020

Story
In mid-October waters from the River Lugg entered our two churches - St Mary the Virgin, Marden and St Michael & All Angels, Bodenham. Two further floods hampered recovery before Christmas, by the beginning of February both churches were drying out well and we were hopeful of beginning the recovery operation. Then Storm Dennis hit! The resulting water levels in the church exceeded floods in 1947.
Both churches have suffered damage to their floors - Bodenham’s wooden flooring is probably beyond repair and the force of water running through Marden Church has lifted tiles. Insurance will cover certain elements, but not everything. Both churches will need significant work to reduce the effects of future flooding, but in the meantime we are raising funds to get both churches back into use as quickly as possible.
Can you help us return these much-loved community buildings back to use ; that they may, once more, be places of welcome and encounter.
Any funds raised will be divided equally between the two churches.

4 years agoA huge thank you for everyone's on going support. I can report that at Marden Church our insurers have given us the go ahead to clean the church ourselves. More mud came into the building than on the last three occasions put together. If you are in the area tomorrow (Saturday) at 11am and can bring a mop, bucket, low pressure washer or any other mud-busting equipment, you'd be very welcome to join us. Wear wellies and old clothes! Every blessing Rev Paul Roberts

4 years agoWe’re bowled over by the response already received to this appeal. It is still early days as water remains in both churches, but it is receding and we’ll soon be able to make an assessment of the damage. Thanks once again for your support, it means a great deal.
