In 2020, at just 26 years old, 𝐌𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 – 𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐚𝐥 – 𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐚. This is a rare and aggressive cancer and each stage of the progression has further narrowed her treatment options. Despite this, she has bravely faced each challenge this devastating illness has thrown at her and continues to fight for her life.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 and despite her current treatment slowing the progression down, it is not a sustainable position to remain in.

𝐌𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐧'𝐬 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲. Unfortunately, this is not available on the NHS and will need to be self-funded. 𝐄𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 £𝟒𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝟑 𝐝𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐬. 𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 £𝟖𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎.

𝐖𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭, 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨. She is still so young and has so much life and love to give. The world is a much better place with her in it.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐧:

● Chemosaturation is a revolutionary treatment that has shown success in almost 90% of patients by either providing tumour stability, reducing tumour load or in some cases, almost removing the patient’s cancer completely

● In 2021, NICE approved chemosaturation as a safe and effective treatment for improving overall survival

● Worldwide data obtained by trials has shown that it has a high response rate and improves the control of metastatic ocular melanoma

● Chemosaturation can help maintain quality of life as symptoms are typically much more easily managed than many other cancer treatments. Due to Megan’s young age, it has been suggested that she would be able to live life fully in between treatments

● Post chemosaturation, patients can live symptom-free and experience a prolonging of life that may not be possible without this treatment
