Story
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth is the neonatal tertiary (referral) centre for the Peninsula sick babies from Exeter, Truro, Torbay, Barnstable and Plymouth. We serve the extreme preterm baby (born 17 weeks too early and some weighing less than 500grams / 1lb) and sick new-born baby population. With every new-born baby come parents who need to be close to their sick baby and all are displaced from their own homes. This incurs financial and emotional costs for the families who stay on NICU for months.
