Story
Melina has suffered a devastating betrayal, with dire consequences, and we desperately need your help to save this senior girl from an uncertain future.
Melina is, we think, about 10 years old, and has, until very recently, been a family pet. She has absolutely no "street smarts" and no hope of surviving on the streets of Lesbos. She has found herself, in the space of a few weeks, firstly on the streets, and now seriously injured and living in a clinic, with no idea of what she did to find herself in this situation.
She was discovered by two English tourists, unable to walk, and taken to a Shelter, where the vet decided she had been hit by a car. Destined to be euthanized because the damage was beyond their resources, Greek Animal Rescue stepped in and transported her to a more specialised vet in Athens, where X-rays showed as well as the paralysis, she also had six broken ribs. In the words of the vet there, "This is not a condemned dog and has a good chance of recovering".
So far, GAR have spent over £1,600 in repairing the damage to her back and ribs, have sourced a walking frame for her rehabilitation, and are investigating the options for hydrotherapy. The operation to restore her independence has been a success, and early indications are that, with the proper resources, this gentle, senior girl will be restored to mobility.
Our aim is to bring her to the UK in around six-to-eight weeks, where she can recover and receive the rehabilitation that is not available to her in Greece... BUT WE DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP.
PLEASE - any donations will go directly to help treat Melina, and we are especially keen to hear from anyone in the UK who can offer her a foster or, even better, the permanent home that this girl so desperately craves.
