I am extremely excited to be participating in an expedition to Ecuador in the summer of 2018. This will be a four week trip and it will include travelling to four different destinations within Ecuador. It will involve community development work, environmental projects and wildlife conservation.
The core objectives of this expedition are to undertake projects in order to raise the educational and living standards of developing communities within a rural district of Ecuador and to help preserve the Amazon rainforest.
During the expedition I will be helping to ensure that the communities we work with have access to clean, safe drinking water. There are a range of initiatives to get clean water into the landscapes, which could include digging wells and installing pumps. I could be implementing filtration systems to clean existing water supplies and installing water tanks so that the rain water can be effectively and safely collected.
The team I will be with will also try to help improve the individual’s quality of life through providing the facilities they need most. The things we may be doing are:- building bridges so people can cross rivers safely, pathways to give the children a safe walk to school, create marketplaces where local people can buy and sell goods, construct community toilets improving hygiene standards and reducing illness.
It's going to be a really amazing experience for me to travel so far and see so many different things and to actually make a difference to some people's lives. I can't wait!
