    Story

    A little about me:

I have a passion for helping those with mental illness! I myself have suffered with this and know how hard it can be. I am now studying psychology at university and hope one day to put it to good use. Please help me on my journey to be able to do this and change lives one by one.

    Why support this cause?

Sri Lanka's mental health system is in termoil! Sri Lnaka has one of the highest suicide rates in the world and there are hardly any resources to cope with this! This has resulted in a crisis in their mental health system, that's only getting worse. Sri Lanka is still recovering from a civil - war and is largely still developing. Mental health patients suffer in silence and they need our help!

Asian culture often pushes aside the importance of mental health and rather sees the symptoms of it as physical rather than something mental i.e. heart palpitations wouldn't be seen as a sign of anxiety but more of a heart problem. Because of this those that do experience mental illness often do not speak out, resulting in higher suicide rates etc. We need to be there for them, be understanding and listen to their stories!

Care is just as important for mental health as vitamins and minerals are for physical health.

I have volunteered to help those who suffer from mental health issues, rehabilitate them and help them learn English! This is a big opportunity to help save the lives of those who are outcast and not helped adequately by their own society. It's a chance to set them up for a more positive future and help them to prosper.

I will hopefully be travelling to Sri Lnaka in the summer of 2018 to do this, I will get to help outpatients reintergarte into the world, learn English and make new lives for themselves! I believe It is our responsibility as one of the world's largest economies to help developing countries get through these hard times. Do you?

I ask you to make any donation possible to enable me to do this invaluable work to help save lives, save those with no one to talk to, nowhere to go and help them get back on track! If someone is depressed in this country they can seek free advice, counselling or medication, This unfortunately is not the case in Sri Lanka. There is no free health care or anything like that and that's why I want to volunteer! To provide free support for those most in need and who cannot afford it.

If this sounds like a cause you'd be willing to support then I offer you the oppurtunity to help me on this journey. I will be overly grateful for any amount you are able to offer!

If I raise enough to make this trip I pledge to keep those who supported me updated on here and my social media!

Thank you to SLV Global for giving me this oppurtunity! If this sounds like something you'd love to do then check them out @ https://slv.global.

    How bad is it?

for those who can get treatment it is limited! for every 500,000 people in Sri Lanka there is only 1 psychiatrist! There are no communicative or people based therapies such as CBT, medication is mainly used! medication often is ineffective alone as it does not change thought processes it only adjusts chemicals in the brain! If you do not change the situation or thought processes of a mental health patient chances are they'll go back into the same situation, with no personal support and relapse.

Please watch the video below to find out more about the limited and stretched mental health system in Sri Lanka. This is exactly why I want to volunteer!

    Thank you!

Please share! If you can, any donation will be massivley apprecaited!
