Story
Market Harborough Hockey Club continues to grow with eight regular Saturday teams—three Men's, three Women's, one Mixed and one Badgers team—as well as junior and masters sides, playing in local and national competitions throughout the hockey season.
With our increasing membership and only one hockey pitch currently in Market Harborough it has become increasingly difficult to schedule enough training sessions and match times to accommodate our growing Club.
Robert Smyth Academy has recently been given planning approval for a new artificial pitch to be built in the grounds of the school on Burnmill Road in Market Harborough.
The new pitch will provide a wonderful state-of-the-art facility for hockey players in and around Market Harborough. The additional pitch space will not only cater for the growing activities of MHHC, but also introduce the pupils at Robert Smyth Academy to the sport of hockey, as well as opening up new opportunities to play hockey to the wider local community.
Over the past year, MHHC has been working closely with Robert Smyth Academy to help fund the project, and as a result the Club has been awarded a grant from the National Hockey Association towards the cost of the pitch. As part of the conditions of the grant MHHC has been asked to find additional funds in the region of £20,000 to go towards the cost of the project.
Having a second hockey pitch in Market Harborough will allow our Club to:
• Fulfil all our fixtures when five or more teams are scheduled to play at home
• Provide separate dedicated training sessions for our junior and senior sections
• Offer more opportunities to play hockey to the wider community (Walking Hockey anyone?)
• Continue to offer friendly and competitive hockey for all ages and abilities
Please help Market Harborough Hockey Club to raise the £20,000 contribution towards this new sports facility at Robert Smyth Academy, and provide additional hockey pitch space for the Club, the school, and the wider community.
A big thank you from everyone at MHHC for your support for the new pitch!
