Story
12 months ago, I was invited as a last-minute replacement to join the team ‘21x21’ and ride the Alpe in aid of the Dutch Cancer Society.
I was ‘Petra’ for the day and successfully cycled the Alpe twice in respectable times
Statistics:
Bourg d’Oisans 720m to Alpe d’Huez 1850m. 13.8kms. 1130 metres of ascent. Average gradient 7.9%. My average ascent time was just under 2 hours!!! Best time Marco Pantani: 37.35 minutes!!
What is Alpe d'HuZes
Alpe d’HuZes is an event in which participants raise as much funds as possible to contribute to the fight against cancer. They do this by running, walking or cycling up the legendary French Alpe d’Huez up to six times in one day.
On 7th June 2018, I am an official member of team ‘21x21’ and cycling as Michael Baldwin with the personal challenge of attempting a minimum of 3 ascents with the strong possibility of going for 4!!
Your support and encouragement would be fantastic, knowing that you are helping to fight against cancer- whether it be research or treatment. Its equally important to me
The Alpe d'HuZes mission: 'Alpe d'HuZes promotes and supports many different forms of (scientific) cancer research, so in future, no-one will have to die after being diagnosed with cancer' We feel we have an important responsibility towards cancer patients and our sponsers. All funds raised go directly to the Dutch Cancer Society (DCS) and are fully spent on projects chosen by the DCS and Alpe d'HuZes, consistent with the Alpe d'HuZes principales of financial transparency and integrity
Its going to be a physically tough and long day, but importantly I'm doing something challenging to further cancer research and treatment. Please support me.
Many thanks for your support and contribution
Michael

An early start tomorrow - leaving the chalet at 3am and starting whilst its still dark.
