Story
As family we have set up this just giving page to try and raise some funds to help support noels family during this difficult and testing time. Noel has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and has had 4 rounds of chemo, all this has taken place in Galway hospital which is 2 hours away from the family home in Leitrim. His dad, mum, sister and brother have been visiting him throughout this last year in Galway whilst he has been having chemo. They have been visiting him 5-6 times a week, taking it in turns. His sister would drive 2 hours after work in the evening to visit him and go home again that night and then go down at the weekend. Betty and Dominick his mum and dad also would go down 1-2 each a week as well as Hugo his brother.. Family and friends have been very good throughout it all, offering lifts, visiting when they could, sending him cards, buying him gifts, etc.
For the next phase of Noel's treatment he is now in recovery awaiting another round of Chemo. The next step is a bone marrow transplant which has to take place in Dublin. Luckily both his brother and sister Hugo and Eilis are matches and they will be assessed over the next month to see who is the better candidate for donation. As part of the transplant Noel will be in St. James hospital in Dublin for up to 2 months confined to his room in the ward. Once his blood counts start to recover Noel can move out but must stay in Dublin. The Bone Marrow Trust in Dublin has 4 apartments available for patients but if these are not free,Noel's family must find accommodation for Noel for 2 months and somebody in his family will have to be with him throughout all of this time as he will still be at high risk of infection and bleeding. They will have to figure out a way to divide their time to ensure someone is with him. Dublin is 2 hours from Leitrim. This journey for Uncle Dominic and Betty started out with having to pay £2700 Euro to get Noel back home, since then the costs have been rising.
