Iʼve raised £1,500 to support young refugees and terminally ill people, by quitting smoking and drinking!

Funded on Wednesday, 15th November 2017

    Story

I am giving up drinking and smoking for the month of October.

Those who know me will know what a huge challenge this will be. I have, for better or for worse, been a heavy drinker and smoker for nearly 25 years. Quitting both of these will be one of the hardest but most rewarding things I've ever done.

    I need your help!

I want to use this challenge as an opportunity to raise money for two organisations close to my heart:

    1) The Hummingbird Project - I have recently started volunteering with this fantastic organisation, who provide aid and support to refugees in Brighton and beyond.. I have been working with the most wonderful group of young refugees through the Global Social Club , which is one of the amazing projects ran by The Hummingbird. The important work they do relies totally on volunteers and donations, and they really need our support.

    2) Rotherham Hospice - This charity in my hometown of Rotherham is important to me for very personal reasons. A couple of years ago my cousin Ian Hill lost his long fight with cancer. He was the closest thing I had to a brother, and I still miss him every day. The care provided for him by Rotherham Hospice in his final days was second to none. They need our support to carry on delivering wonderful care to people in times of great need.

Please give generously. Every pound you give will help two fantastic organisations, and will give me the support I need to take on a challenge that quite frankly scares the hell out of me!

You can donate knowing that you are both supporting two great causes AND helping me look after my health.

    Thank you for helping!

    Lots of love,

    Mick

Update 3 - 3 weeks into my no-drink-no-smoke challenge, and I've hit my target of raising £1000! Wow! Thank you all so very much! There's still just over a week to go, so please keep giving and help me smash it! There's also over £150 in my jar that I'll be adding once it's over. Thanks a bunch - it's been tough, but I'm very pleased indeed!
