    Story

On April 28th this year, my 21 year old son Mike was found collapsed and unconscious at home. He was taken by ambulance to the
Countess of Chester Hospital and transferred over to Walton Neuro Centre in Liverpool. He had suffered a bleed to his brain caused by a weaked blood vessel.

Mike spent the next 48 hours in Intensive Care before being transferred to the High Dependency Unit whilst all the time in a coma. Over the next few days he slowly regained consciousness and it became evident that he had suffered complete paralysis to the entire left hand side of his body, with similar symptoms as that of a stroke victim. A drain tube was inserted into his skull to relieve the pressure from the bleeding and over several weeks with the help of some fantastic nursing care he became more lucid and was able to speak with some effort.

Over the next 3 months in hospital Mike slowly gained some feeling and movement in his left leg. Aided by the hospital physiotherapists he was able to take his first few steps with a walking stick, but still had no movement in his left arm. On July 19th Mike was realeased from hospital in a wheelchair so that he could attend his university graduation ceremony and from that point on he has been at home. Initialy he received regular physio from the NHS at home but this slowly dwindled down.

Since September Mike has been receiving Neuro Physiotherapy in Chester by Therapy Matters, a private specialist in the field of rehabilitation after a brain injury. He has made great progress walking aided with a stick and has gained some movement in his left arm but is still unable to manipulate his left hand.

Mike attends Therapy Matters twice a week and it is hoped that I can raise £1500 to pay for 10 weeks treatment by completing a sponsored walk on New Years Eve. I hope all of you that know Mike or our family can find it in your hearts to support my walk but above all support Mike and his ongoing recovery.

A massive thank you to all those that sponsored my 30 mile walk on New Years Eve. With the additional sponsorship forms and cash donations we have so far raised over £3,800 for Mikes neuro therapy... that's amazing when our original target was £1,500! This will now fund 50 specialist therapy sessions so thank you all so much for being so generous x

This is what I need all your support for, specialist Neuro rehabilitation for Mike. This week Mike got to use the treadmill for the first time, this equipment allows the therapists to see how his left leg moves and responds whilst walking. Thanks for all the donations so far, we received another £180 this morning on sponsorship forms. My 30 mile sponsored walk is just over a week away and with your help I think we will double our target and reach over £3,000, all of which will pay for extra treatment for Mike.

Thanks for all the donations so far, the response has been amazing! The original target was £1,500 but we've reached £2,095 so far on Just Giving and there is at least another £500 pledged on sponsorship forms. It would be fantastic if we could reach £3,000 😃

These boots are made for walking! Thanks to Sue Reece and Georgina Naylor for your kind donations, even though we've passed our target we would still like to raise more, every penny goes to Mikes therapy. If you've ever worked for me, supplied me or been sponsored by me then I'm coming after you! Keep it coming and thanks again to you all so far.

On New Years Eve I will walk a 30 mile route from my house to Moel Famau and back via the country lanes which will include a total climb for the walk of approx 3,500 feet. I would appreciate any support you can give, either by donating or joining me for part of the walk.
