Weʼre raising £200 to Help raise awareness of mental health issues in a number of areas, across the community
- 22 days to go
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Ewan Norris and I are running a Half Marathon on the 20th May 2018 to support the James Burke Foundation.
Mental health issues like depression can be an uphill battle every day, and can reveal impressive mental strength and fitness in people. So, we have quite literally chosen the hilliest half we could find to show off our (lack of) physical and mental strength - bring on the Snowdonia Half Marathon...
James Burke passed away on April 30th 2017 from suicide. He was a members of Leeds University Rugby League, and the society are committed to an ongoing campaign to raise awareness of mental health issues in his memory.
The Foundation being set up to create a legacy for James will work with schools, sports groups (both in the community and professional level) to :
•Deliver an educational programme - raising awareness of suicide
•Fund small projects with defined objectives
•lobby for improved medical services and intervention
•create a network of 'buddies' who can act as a listening ear.
•Create a loved ones against suicide network to disseminate information and other support services
•Referrals to mainstream services where required
•Raise awareness of depression and its effects which are often hidden
•Annual programme of events
