In June 2017, I will be travelling to Honduras with other volunteers from the University of Edinburgh, supporting a Medical Brigade, to deliver healthcare and medication to adults and children in rural communities, where the access to healthcare is limited. Each volunteer will be raising funds to support the trip and to help purchase the necessary medication and equipment.

We will be taking vitals and help set up multiple clinics specialising in different parts of the medical field as well as a pharmacy. We will have an opportunity to shadow licensed doctors as they assess the patients and to help licensed pharmacists. Also, to help sustain a good level of healthcare we will be teaching the communities about health and hygiene. In preparation for this trip, we will be taking classes on basic medical skills to aid our experience as well as basic Spanish lessons. This will allow us to improve the communication between the communities and the brigade.

The Medical Brigade aims to improve healthcare in these communities and provide the necessary equipment in order to sustain the newly-improved level of healthcare.
