Currently there are NO tourist attractions within North Yorkshire that have a place for disabled people who need a changing bench. All too often parents and carers have to change their charges on urine soaked floors or hidden away in some quiet corner. Many limit their visit time or just don't visit at all to avoid having to change!

There is also a lack of facilities at village halls and sports clubs, with the Changing Places that do exist being at swimming pools or libraries. This means that parts of our community are being excluded from being included because of a lack of facilities.

The cost to have a dedicated room in a facility may be prohibitive in a lot of cases and this is where a mobile solutions comes in.

I have "acquired" a welfare trailer that I would like to re-purpose to become a mobile changing room so that it can be used around the County for those that need it.

The idea would be to remove the existing body off the trailer and construct a new room on top. In the room would be a changing table / hoist / wash basin. With a tail lift to get chairs in and out.

Having spoken to some people it seems a route to go down would be the crowd funding one and also trying to get help from some suppliers / tradesmen.

It looks like it will cost approx £5000 to be able to have a functioning Changing Place. The cost of the mobile solution that is used in other parts is in excess of £40k! But you know me and I like to keep it simple!

I have already identified a fabrication company can do the modifications to the trailer and build the "room"

This is do-able and I know that just one of these would make a difference and be used around the County.
