    Story

I'm Malcolm and I started Models for Heroes in early 2017.   After seeing an advert for Models For Troops and their work I wanted to get involved.  Models for Troops donates kits and materials to US troops currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  I thought that this was an amazing idea being a keen scale model maker myself - I wanted to find the UK's charity.  I looked but couldn't find an equivalent...

    ...so I'm starting one.

The act of following instructions and relaxing quietly while scale modelling can produce a meditative state.  It encourages focus, patience and fine motor skills.  The model itself may evoke positive past memories of childhood hobbies.

Strategies for recognising and communicating memories and the feelings related to them become an important skill in managing PTSD.  Not only that, the hobby has a strong social aspect with many online forums, facebook groups and model shows all open to anyone with an interest in scale modelling.

Hurray! Well done everyone. Thats alot of money. Well done. We're in a position to run till next year. Perhaps we won't be able to deliver quite as much as we'd initially hoped but we will definitely be doing some food to some folks. Draper Tools are delivering tje final tools and we cam then start getting these kits and materials out to the art departments that want them and the ex servicemen personell that need them. Thanks again. X

Hello tot he Twenty-Nine of you who are excellent and my new BFFs. Were at 50% of our target for the first years running costs. Fortuately I have overestimated the costs using a worse case scenario. Ive also received cheques from IPMS Farnborough and a private individual bringing my total raised so far to 1200gbp. Ive had more kits than I could ever imagine could be donated and offeres of help for themodelling sessions at Tedworth and Chavasse next month. Look at my facebook page for some photos of the tedworth house session.

So where are we? We have sent out our first few boxes of kits and I am heading up to Tedworth house next week to teach scale modelling ro the folks there. Ive been able to purchase all that I need apart from these pesky side cutters. Noone is able to help so far with what I need. I dont want to buy cheap £2 clippers and have modellers struggle. But also I dont want to buy expensive ones and blow all the funding. I will keep looking. :)

Great idea. Building and painting models helped me recover from psychotic depression. I hope this helps others.
