Story
In 2008 I contracted a disease which left me with nerve damage and unable to work. Recently, my mobility improved sufficiently for me to start part-time employment and I rented a small studio and became a self-employed artist. I have been fortunate enough to exhibit at both solo and group shows nationally and overseas and am currently working on a piece for a fund-raising event for the British Heart Foundation. You can see all my work at: www.moniqueoliver.co.uk
All my savings went into setting the studio up, purchasing equipment, tools and materials. Whilst my work sold steadily throughout 2016, I am still establishing a name for myself. I live alone, so my art has to support me as well as itself! Following a recent re-assessment of my needs I (rightly) lost the mobility component of my DLA but my “help with daily living” was increased to the enhanced rate. Despite this and living a modest lifestyle (housing association sheltered housing) there is never extra money to buy much needed adapted work equipment.
Due to my health issues I developed a method of painting WITHOUT brushes as I am unable to hold them for long but I need 2 height adjustable work tables, to allow me to adjust my painting position to standing and sitting and assist with the moving around of heavier wood panels in the studio as unfortunately my painting methods can’t be done on larger canvas.
I applied for a grant for 1 table and passed the eligibility criteria. While I am grateful to be considered, due to their budget restrictions this table (should I be successful) will have a manual lever (difficult for me) and no wheels.
I haven’t asked for any help before but have started this page to raise funds for the other table – which has an electric mechanism AND wheels and costs just over £988. The other £200 is for delivery charges and to cover JustGiving processing fees.
Any contribution you are able to make is hugely appreciated - thanks SO much!

8 years agoJust wanted to say a huge "thank you" to those of you who have supported me via my crowd-funding page over at Just Giving. Some of you have chosen to donate directly so and I'm incredibly grateful for all your support. I am also delighted to announce that I got word today that I was successful in my fundraising application and that money will also be put towards it. Even if it takes me the rest of this year - that table will be mine!!! xxx
