Like many, I was sitting at home practising social distancing and wondering what I could do to help.

And, as I was sitting in my home and watching my three children squealing with delight as they ran around playing in our back garden, I thought of two colleagues whose period of social distancing would be somewhat more complicated.

You might have read about them in the Metro: Family in 'crippling debt' after paying '£5000 in hospital parking bills'. Since Darcy's diagnosis in 2017, it's fair to say that Jo and Jay have been through a lot.

So I put my thinking cap on and thought that I could, as a fundraising gesture, make the ultimate millennial sacrifice: my beard. Fortunately, I am not a millennial, but I will be livestreaming and/or filming and distributing the shearing of my Samson-esque source of power nonetheless.

If you can spare a few quid here and there, I'm sure every penny would help them during this even more difficult situation.
