    Story

Our wonderful Clair has recently been diagnosed with terminal Bowel Cancer, and has courageously decided to ‘Brave the Shave’ in order to raise vital funds for both Your Voice, Cornwall CiC, and Bowel Cancer UK.

There is a separate page for Bowel Cancer, UK and this page is for our fundraiser account.

Here’s Clairs story, in her own words:

    “My story

On the 16th July this year I had an appointment for a routine endoscopy and colonoscopy to find out why I had been suffering from tummy pains for several weeks, thinking that I had a stomach ulcer and all would be well, it was sadly confirmed that I actually had bowel cancer.

Forward 2 weeks and the diagnosis from a CT scan showed the worse, I had stage 4 terminal bowel cancer, and there were secondary cancers in my liver and peritoneum, possibly both breasts and many of my lymph nodes were affected too. I was told that I had 6 months to live and needed to start chemotherapy as soon as possible if I was to stand a fighting chance.

I am currently on palliative care chemotherapy as I am deemed inoperable as it stands with all of the tumours in my body. However, I am not accepting that and am determined to fight this awful disease for as long as I can for both myself and also my three children.

Due to my chemotherapy my hair has become thinner and I have decided to take the plunge on 5th November and ‘Brave the Shave’. This is where you come in as I am looking for sponsors.

As I always try to see the silver lining in things I felt that this was a great opportunity to be able to raise money for charity. I feel that there needs to be more awareness and also more research into bowel cancer. Supposedly it can take 10-15 years to get to stage 4 bowel cancer, yet I was unaware of the symptoms until it was too late. On reflection, there were a few symptoms that I shook off as nothing and if I had only been more aware my cancer could have been caught in the early stages and my prognosis would be a different story.

Someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer every 15 minutes in the UK. It’s also the country’s second biggest cancer killer.

Please sponsor me to ‘brave the shave’ on 5th November where I will have all of my hair shaved off. Every penny will count. This is for such a good cause and all donations will go towards helping to save more people in the future from this dreadful silent disease.

Thank you for taking the time to read through my story.

Much love as always, Clair 💕

Clair has been a supporter of us from day one - and has helped faise funds by making fabulous face masks. We have done radio interviews together, and we will forever be in awe of her inspiring courage and zest for life.

    we love you, Clair.
