Since the end of Apartheid in 1994, the world has praised South Africa for its peaceful transition to democracy. South Africa has one of the most liberal constitutions in the world, one that enshrines a respect for human rights. Yet protecting these human rights cannot be left to individuals or the government alone; there must be independent institutions to ensure that human rights are protected in a country that, prior to 1994, was governed by one of the most repressive regimes of the 20th century.

I have been accepted on a Human Rights Law Placement in the beautiful city of Cape Town in South Africa for one month in summer 2017. The programme is run by an organisation called VACorps which is a unique organization that has transformed the lives of countless young adventurers through careful program design and a sincere passion for what we love which in my case is Human Rights!

During my placement I will be taking an active role in the process; investigating and dealing with complaints of human rights violations from people living in Cape Town. I will also participate in community-based activism and work with human rights leaders in civil society and promote Refugee rights, Human rights, HIV/AIDS advocacy, Gender advocacy, Education rights and many more.

For those who know me very well know that I love helping people. So I ask you kindly to help me raise £2500 so I will be able to help individuals in Cape Town who have been victims of human rights. As Nelson Mandela (South African civil rights activist) once said; “To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity.”
