Story
On the 16th October 23 students from NCEA 6th form are travelling to Sri Lanka for this years volunteering abroad trip.
Sri Lanka is still a developing nation, only recently ending its civil war in 2009 as well as being severely affected by the 2004 boxing day tsunami and the 2016 flooding. Though Sri Lanka is recovering each year, volunteering can help make a difference to those in need.
We will be visiting Sri Lanka for 2 weeks, predominately spending our time working with schools and orphanages. Here we will be helping care for the children affected by the recent turmoil as well as plan and conduct activities for them to learn and enjoy. In addition, we will also be working on a beach conservation project and at an elephant orphanage to learn about the human elephant conflict and support organisations working with communities to find a solution.
To help make this trip a success we are working hard to fundraise around our studies. We are holding regular events in and around Ashington, Northumberland but we hope this page will make all the difference. Any donation, no matter how small, will get us one step closer to making a difference.
We will be updating this page regularly with all our upcoming events so please do re-visit to keep up to date with our progress. This will be a life changing experience for everyone involved so we appreciate anything you can do to help. Thank you.
