Newton Leys Community Defibrillator

A very kind person donated £1000 to Newton Leys School for the installation of a automatic external defibrilliator, and asked for it to be installed on an outside wall, so it will be available to the Newton Leys Community 24/7. We need the local community to help fund the installation of the electrical supply to the external location, and also we need to fund the heated code-locked cabinet so that when the community need it, it can be used.

Why?

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a leading cause of premature death but some lives can be saved……the quicker a casualty is treated by defibrillation the greater chance of success. Seconds count though and with the health service under strain, having AEDs in every community makes complete sense. In the last 12 months, we have had one situation where someone was so ill, the air ambulance had to land in Newton Leys.

How will this work?

Details of the AED are stored with the 999 control room. When a member of the public dials 999, the 999 operator directs the caller to collect an AED if appropriate and will issue them with a code which will unlock the cabinet. AEDs are designed for use by the public and will not work on someone who doesn’t need it.

What funds are needed?

The funds raised will go to purchase the heated and code locked external cabinet, pay for its installation and for an electrical supply to be connected to the cabinet. It's important that the cabinet is heated so that even in winter it will always be able to function straightaway.

We need more than one!
