As an anaesthetist, I spent many fond years serving patients and working with brilliant NHS colleagues at the Royal Free Hospital and National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

It is heart breaking to hear from friends working on the frontline today of the devastating impact of Covid-19. The immense emotional and physical burden borne by clinical staff in ICUs across the country as conspiracy theorists post ludicrous footage of "deserted wards and corridors" whilst staff are redeployed to deal with an influx of critically ill patients, is mindboggling.

As a show of solidarity and gratitude, we started delivering fruit, refreshments, and other treats as pick-me-ups to staff at the Royal Free a few days ago. Thank you Hampstead Garden Suburb residents! Since then, we’ve been inundated with generous offers of support to help other hospitals across London. We’ve partnered with Fresh Food Trader – a discount wholesaler to source and deliver packages of goodness at below cost price to as many London Hospitals as your donations will allow over the coming difficult weeks.
