Hello,
I am Doreen Manousios Main Contact of Special Olympics Wakefield

My son Nick has kindly offered to help by taking part in a sponsored run for our club by getting himself punished competing in the “TOTAL WARRIOR” 12K grueling obstacle race on Sun 26th June at Bramham Park Leeds. We hope you can help by sponsoring him in his quest.

S.O .Wakefield was started almost 15 years ago and runs under the umbrella of Special Olympics G.B.

We train under the guidance of Wakefield Autism Leisure Club, who themselves have been providing sports training for athletes with intellectual disabilities for 20 yrs.

Special Olympic athletes ages range from 8 yrs and upwards with no upper age limit. We in Wakefield compete in aquatics, football, indoor kurling, boccia and indoor bowls, clubs all over the country compete in many other sports.

We are reliant on our unpaid volunteers and fundraisers as we are completely self supporting.
This year our main funding objective is the four yearly National Summer Games which is to be held this year in Sheffield. Opening ceremony on the evening of Tues 8th Aug at Sheffield Utd F C ground. All welcome.

Athletes who all have intellectual disabilities will compete in events geared to their own individual abilities. We will compete as part of the Yorkshire & Humberside squad, and our contingent will include :-
12 athletes, 4 swimmers, 2 footballers and 6 indoor bowlers.
Along with the help of 6 carers.
Accommodation at Sheffield Uni, transport and a new kit, have added up to a hefty total to be raised.
