A few months ago Darren started getting a tickly cough, it then turned into a more persistent cough and then a sore throat. Like most of us he self treated. It escalated so quickly he was convinced it was something more serious, he then started coughing up blood and after having a nosebleed it made him google the symptoms. Immediately he went to his local hospital's accident and emergency.

After hours of waiting for consultants, tests, results they transferred him to another hospital miles away from home and diagnosed with throat cancer.

His wife Rowena doesn't drive and their youngest child is 12 years old and the hospital had strict visiting hours which adds to the stress.

Since Darren's first diagnosis he's undergone numerous chemotherapy treatments which have taken their toll. Following a bout of flu his bloods showed high levels of calcium and he was given a blood transfusion. Finally on Wednesday 15th September they had no choice but to stop treatment - the cancer has won! All the operations, intensive chemotherapy, all the struggle and hope gone. Nothing can stop his aggressive disease..

The family would like to thank you for taking the time to read this and for any help - no matter how little. Nothing is in place - no funding - no care plan. It's simply happened so fast!

Darren told Rowena (his wife) he was going to marry her the first day he met her. He's is an amazing husband, father, grandfather and most importantly to us, a dear friend. So please help this family who are still trying to come to terms with this devastating news!
