Story
Lakenham-Hewett Ladies' rugby player, Nicola Jackman, suffered a serious knee injury when playing for our club earlier this season - she lost her job becuse of it, has already undergone surgery and is now facing a long recovery period which will include requiring specialist physio in order to be able to straighten her leg again and eventually put some weight on it.
Here is Nicola's story in her own words:
I have played rugby from the age of 14. I represented my school where we beat every girls school team based in Scotland - that's how I became hooked on playing rugby.
When I moved back to England, I played with Lakenham-Hewett Ladies (based near Norwich in Norfolk) for 2 years before going into the Army where I represented my Corps and Army in rugby Competitions. During this time, I also played for various home town clubs.
After 13 years in the Army, I came back to Norwich and back to Lakenham-Hewett Ladies where I have enjoyed playing rugby ever since. Earlier this season, I suffered a double knee dislocation with lateral collateral ligament broken, medial meniscus tear, lateral radial meniscus tear & lateral flap meniscus tear. I required an ACL rebuild & bone graft too.
I thought I would be able to handle this injury but once work knew, I lost my job. Being someone who is so active, it affects your mind. It's hard to stay positive when you can't even do simple tasks for yourself. You lose your identity and my identity was Miss Independent who worked hard and played hard.
It will take about 18 months if all goes to plan to be up and running but the affects will be chronic arthritis when I'm older. Unfortunately, the severity of my injury has put an end to my rugby career; a sport which I have thoroughly enjoyed playing for the past 22 years.
Both Lakenham-Hewett Ladies RFC & Nicola are very grateful for all donations which will help her in her time of need.
If you cant afford to donate financially, then a few words of support and motivation for Nic would also be very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your support.

6 years agoThank you everyone for your generous support. Between this page, our Facebook fundraiser and other fundraising, we have now reached our £500 goal - all of this money has been spent on physio sessions only. Nicola is making great progress. She has got her leg straight during every physio session, is working very hard on exercises she can do herself at home and, as per her physio’s advice, is building up her muscle strength using an indoor bike. Thank you all again - you helped make this happen 😊

7 years agoThank you everyone that has contributed so far - thanks to you, Nicola has now booked her first consultation appointment with Lorna @ Replay Sports Clinic - you made this happen!!! £70 raised on this page has been paid directly to Replay Sports Clinic. Lorna has also contacted Nic to advise her re. what exercises she can be doing herself pre-her first consultation appointment. Nicola is willing to give it 100% but due to losing her job, she needs the help of many more generous people to continue her recovery journey. Please keep donating!!!
