Story
We have set up this page for our 6 year old daughter Holly. Holly was born very prematurely at 25wks and as a result she has Cerebral Palsy. She was diagnosed at 2 yrs old and it became apparent soon after that she wouldn't walk.
After lots of research we found Dr TS Park in St Louis who is the pioneering surgeon for SDR - Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy. This has been life changing surgery for many children as it has enabled them to lead a more independent life free from spasticity and pain, and in many cases children have been able to walk whether it be independently or using aides.
This surgery isn't available to Holly on the NHS, however she has been accepted as a suitable candidate by Dr Park to have the procedure carried out in St Louis Childrens Hospital in Misssouri USA late this year, which has to be funded by ourselves.
We have been overwhelmed by the kindness of friends and family who are willing to help raise funds for Hollys SDR journey, and after much thought and consideration we decided to set up this page for those who are so kind to want to help.
As Holly's mum I have set myself a challenge! When Holly was in hospital, she spent 105 days in the neonatal unit. She did leave the unit twice to go to Yorkhill Hospital for surgery, but the best journey she made was the one where we finally got to take her home!
So I have decided that hopefully with the help of a few others I am going to do that journey again by running/walking (crawling if I have to!!) approx. 12 miles from Crosshouse Maternity Unit to our home in Saltcoats. At 41 years old and not as fit as I once was this will most certainly be a challenge which I hope you will support. Anyone wishing to join me, you are most welcome, the more the merrier!
Hollys surgery including approx 2 years post surgery rehab/physio is in the region of £80,000. If we can reach anywhere near our £10k target we will be delighted and so very grateful.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit our page. xx

8 years agoLast day today for our page. Thank you so much to the people who have donated in the last few days. It really is greatly appreciated. Holly is still a bit young to understand the enormity of the support that she's had, however it's something that as a family we will never forget, so once again thank you all so much xxx
