Story
We are not a sanctuary, but a diversification of a family farm, who love their animals and treat them with the respect they deserve and as individuals. We are often approached to take in llamas where owners have been struggling to keep them for various reasons and need to re-home them for their welfare. We can't take in every llama, but the ones we do take we rehabilitate to either settle them with us on the farm or look for good long lasting homes. Many llamas that come to us are wild and un-handled, others miss handled with behavioural issues. Some have no 'boundary' awareness and have often been kept indoors or if allowed out, have been jumping onto roads and other land, causing potential harm to themselves and others, not to mention stress to their owners! We currently have a few on the farm, who have been kept indoors due to this and for them to be able to roam in a field and free, require specific areas made with high sturdy fencing to allow them to live a happy free life and enjoy the outdoors and graze safely. Now the Summer is approaching its a priority to allow these llamas their freedom and develop the awareness they need to live safely. Normally all funds for the rehabilitation comes from our trekking business, however due footfall being less this year in connection with the cost of living crisis we are having to ask for some support in this area. We are therefore looking for support towards purchasing materials to erect appropriate fencing, so the llamas in question can be once again allowed to be free in a controlled safe environment. Thank you for reading, we would be most grateful for any assistance no matter how small, so these llamas can enjoy 'safe' freedom.

Nidderdale Llamas - rescue and rehabilitation unit
1 year agoWe are very thankful to all those who have supported us over the last few months, the llamas and alpacas say a huge 'thank you' too! Luckily, Spring picked up a little and we have been able to make ends meet more, but we are not as busy as we could be. We are still receiving requests for help to re-home llamas, some in sad situations, so we have now changed our page, to our rehabilitation area of the farm as this is where the support is now required through the Summer. Many thanks again and we will keep everyone updated on our progress.
