My name is Nieve Deighton,

This is my Story.

I have been through multiple selection processes to secure a place on this trip. One of the selection weekends took place at Pax Lodge, one of the 5 World Guiding Centres across the globe. During the course of the weekend I was assessed on skills such as planning and orientating, research and presentation skills and team building activity's which allow me forge many new friendships within Girl Guiding as nobody had met each other prior to the event.

When on the trip in 2019, I will be able to transfer the skills I have gained from the many selection processes into challenges I might face, along with other skills gained from the mini training weekends running up to and in preparation for my trip.

The World Scout Jamboree will allow over 40,000 Scouts and Guides from a around the world to come together as a community and be educated about global development, sustainability, faith and beliefs and share cultural experiences which will be explored through out the 12 days of the event. After this I will transfer from the WSJ where I will stay with a host family to really immerse myself in their culture, live their life and help to change their community.

I strongly believe the trip will have a huge impact on my attitude towards many global issues, as well as my own personal development. To be part of this amazing opportunity, enriched with diverse cultures and experiences is something I would not experience in my daily life.

After the trip I will compose a report and then present it to multiple Guiding Units in my local area. This will allow me to transfer the knowledge I would have gained to other local Guides and help raise awareness about the global issues we are faced with on a daily basis, and the impact Girl Guiding can make.
