As part of an eight person team from Worksop College, I will soon be undertaking a four and a half week self-sustaining expedition into Arctic Norway.

Our aim is to complete an "Arctic Triathlon", with three separate journeys across land, sea and ice.

We will fly into Norway on the 20th July, and will set up initial camp in Arctic Bodø. From there we will begin our expedition with a traverse across a glacier in Meløy, spending a number of days surviving on the glacier with what we can carry on our backs. Having journeyed across the glacier, we will enter the second stage of our triathlon, moving onto the land, with roughly a four night ridge traverse on the islands of Lofoten. We will battle against both Arctic conditions and high altitude, testing our physical capability and mental toughness to the extreme. Towards the end of our trip, we will complete our triathlon on the sea, with a journey by sea kayak around the same collection of islands, conquering our own personal limits. At the end of this four week expedition, we will visit Værøy and Oslo before returning home on the 14th August.

This is a unique challenge, the likes of which few ever have the opportunity to experience, let alone at such a young age. Our intention is to test our strength to the maximum - both personal and as a team; physical and mental. Having already undergone training in the English Lake District and Scottish Gairgorms, we hope to trial our skills and pure grit in the ultimate ordeal - the Arctic circle.

The individual cost for the expedition will be £1,800, and it is this cost that I am intending to raise. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and an exceedingly impressive venture, pushing ourselves to our limits and beyond. In supporting this expedition, this Arctic Triathlon, you will be supporting an examination of human possibility; if we succeed, it will be an achievement very few could accomplish.
