In 2019, my Grandmother (Nanny Angela) went to live at The Pear Tree Care Home in Sydenham, after previously having being diagnosed with dementia. Since then, they have been an incredible support, not only to my Grandmother, but to our entire family (even arranging covid safe visits!) and arranging facetime calls when we couldn‘t see her in person.

At The Pear Tree, they have an amazing schedule of regular entertainment and activities for residents, ranging from dance competitions, to musical guests, to even going to see the Christmas lights on Oxford Street. These activities not only provide fun variations in the resident’s day to day lives (encouraging my grandmother to continue to dance and sing- her favourite thing to do!), but also helps residents with dementia to maintain cognitive skills and reduces anxiety.

The Entertainment Team at The Pear Tree are amazing, even through this most challenging of years. I’d love to give back and help raise additional funds to give The Pear Tree more freedom to provide activities and entertainent that they feel will enrich the resident’s time there.

To do this, I am aiming to run 100km throughout the month of January 2021. Anyone who knows me knows this will be a challenge! But it’s for a cause very close to my heart.
