Story
On the 7Th July 2017 a group of Chellaston Academy students along with myself, will be travelling to Uganda to work on an ongoing charity project maintaining two orphanages and a primary school. The Chellaston Academy Uganda project started in 2007 when the school purchased their first orphanage, named the ‘John Dickens’ House. The work has continued over the years thanks to the dedication of the staff and pupils of Chellaston Academy. We are now the proud owners of two orphanages and a primary school which cares for and educates children from disadvantaged backgrounds. It is an extraordinary cause that shows the passion and dedication of students to continue to help improve the lives of others.
As a team we have to raise a minimum of £30,000 to enable this project to continue running successfully each year and being fully sustainable. The funds raised will be spent on building work, decoration, furniture, employing staff, medical expenses and providing fresh food and water for the children. As a school we continuously fundraise and are very grateful to the local community and businesses who support us.
Whilst in Uganda the team from Chellaston Academy will primarily be working on the orphanages renovating and developing the sites as well as helping to care for the children and building relationships with the local community. We will also be teaching at the local primary school and visiting other disadvantaged areas to distribute clothes and toiletries to families.
