Weʼre raising £2,000 to support the ongoing development of the UK's first LGBTIQ+ Homeless/Crisis Shelter & LGBTIQ+ Community Centre.
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
The Outside Project is the UK's first LGBTIQ+ Homeless/Crisis Shelter. It was created in response to the higher rate of domestic abuse, hate crime & homelessness amongst our community. We also run an LGBTIQ+ Community Centre, support sober spaces at events & advise & advocate for identity responsive support services across the sector.
We launched our fundraising at London Pride 2017. Due to the huge amount of support & volunteer applications we received we were able to buy a 12 bed, rock star tour bus & open the shelter in December 2017. We began the community hub in mid-December.
We support LGBTIQ+ people who are fleeing violence & abuse on the street, in winter shelters/mainstream services & in their homes. We have supported guests to return home, find safe accommodation, return to work & link in with identity responsive services such as Galop & Stonewall Housing for specialist support around hate crime, abuse & housing.
We are an independent, grassroots project set up by members of the LGBTIQ+ community who work in the homelessness sector & have lived experience of homelessness & the issues our community face.
