    Story

We are trying to raise some money to help fund a home stair lift for our dad who is in the end stages of heart failure. Unfortunately the cost of this is far too high for my parents to afford so we are trying to help out by crowd funding. Our story is below.

Our dad was diagnosed with heart failure in January 2014 after being taken into hospital on Christmas day and over the last 4 years we have seen his health steadily decline. Last year he was very unwell and was advised in April that he was in the end stages of heart failure and the prognosis was months, not years. He has battled on, always keeping his sense of humour but recently he has had an extended stay in hospital which has weakened him further. We were hopeful he could have been helped with open heart surgery but following extensive tests it was made clear that his chances of surviving the surgery were very slim and that if he did survive there would be no improvement to his quality of life. His life at home is now very restricted which has been made worse because there is no down stairs toilet and he has to struggle upstairs to the loo, sometimes taking him over 25 minutes to get upstairs. It has been suggested that a commode be put downstairs but due to him having a colostomy (following a previous battle with bowl cancer) he needs to have access to water when he uses the toilet. (Our dad has had a lot of health battles but is still fighting.)

I know that everyone says they have the best dad in the world but to us he really is the best! Our dad has had a number of health issues throughout his life which have often hindered him in his ability to have enough energy to do even some basic things, but he has never ceased to amaze us with his continued positivity and sense of humour despite these setbacks. He has been truly inspiring! However since his most recent spell in hospital we have noticed some of his spark fade as he truly is now very ill and for us to have to watch this it is truly heartbreaking and makes us feel helpless! This is why we are trying to raise some money to help him get this stair lift and to hopefully imorove his quality of life for the time that he has left. The stair lift will be around £4,000 so we are aiming to raise half of this in order to help.

We appreciate that not everyone will be able to help but if there is anything that you can spare anything will help and we would all be truly grateful.

    Thank you

    Paganne & Martyn

Thank you ever so much to everyone that donated and shared the page. I am very pleased to say that we have been able to order the stair lift and it is now fitted. It has already improved things for dad as he has unfortunately deteriorated enough that he can no longer use the stairs without it. Thank you so much from all of us. Here is a picture of dad on his first trip :).
