Story
The VHD2 is a horrid virus that kills rabbits with no warning. Our friends at Bobtails Rabbit and Guinea Pig Rescue in Surrey have been devastated by an outbreak of VHD2. Although they always fully vaccinate their animals (and all their vaccinated rabbits are fine) they lost 9 baby rabbits under 4 weeks old and the two mummy rabbits who were still feeding them and yet to be vaccinated for VHD2 . They were due to be vaccinated the following week. I’m therefore doing a sponsored swim on 7th June to raise money for Scunthorpe Rabbit Rescue to help fund the cost of getting the rabbits in their care vaccinated against this virus. I will swim 150 lengths of the pool at DW Sports in Marshalls Yard, Gainsborough. Sponsorship would be greatly appreciated as without our kind supporters we are unable to protect our animals. Scunthorpe Rabbit Rescue was founded in 1996, although it is not a registered charity, it is RSPCA approved and registered with the RSPCA call centre contact list. All the rabbits which arrive at North Lincolnshire RSPCA are brought to this rescue as they have no facilities of their own and it is Rabbit Welfare Association approved. The Rabbit Rescue is run by one lady and volunteers trying to do their best for an animal with no voice to speak for itself.

7 years agoSponsored swim complete – in fact I ended up doing 160 lengths. As I completed the 150 (in one and a half hours) I was told that if I swam another 10 lengths that would be 2 miles. A big thank you to Sheila for invigilating and to everyone who sponsored me, the Just Giving page is open for another 21 days if anyone would still like to support me.

I am a volunteer at Scunthorpe Rabbit Rescue and have been helping out there on a weekly basis since I moved to Lincolnshire 6 years ago. I also still do remote voluntary work for Bobtails Rabbit and Guinea Pig Rescue in Surrey where I used to live.
