    Story

Celtic Gary lives in this make do shelter accommodation in between the Library and Greggs. Let me tell you about Gary, a long time ago when he was sat here in this alley a little old lady slipped on some wet leaves 🍁 and he went to her and offered her a cup of tea ☕️ with the change that he had. He made sure the little old lady was safe and OK before she went on her way. The next day he mentioned to the street cleaning team that they needed to clear the wet leaves up as an old lady had slipped and was told to mind his own business.

There and then he determined that no other lady would EVER fall over in that alley ever again whilst he was there., he keeps this place spotless. It is the cleanest street/alley in the city because he picks and sweeps it all day long with his hands and his brushes.

This week the local council decided to issue Gary with a fine for begging which is £60 if he pays this within 14 days.

All Gary wants to do is clean up the city so why don’t we just give him a place to live with Whitefriars or any of the housing associations or his own private place and a mobile cleaning station, a Month’s worth of food from Coventry Food Bank and a month’s worth of Tobacco and watch him transform this city. I don’t know how much a city street cleaning operative earns but it is a small price to pay for a man that has kept this alleyway clean.

Issuing Gary with a £60 fine for begging, rather than give him a hand Up is unacceptable to us the people, someone at the council decides to kick him in the balls whilst he is down.

Adi Mckeever this is Celtic Gary who I was telling you about, WE THE PEOPLE call on all Celtic supporters to rally around one of their own and all citizens of Coventry should rally around.

Write to the three councillors for St Michaels DEMANDING that the fine be ripped up and that as a policy fining people who need a hand up should be outlawed.

There are 83,452 people in prison as of 01/07/2019 and circa 3000 of them are in prison for non payment of fines. Each one costs £45,000 to keep in prison for 1 year (Real Cost) the system is wrong both in local authority and national authority and this has made me so so angry beyond belief.

Please contact one of the three councillors in the St Michaels ward, contact your own councillor and demand that not only do they rip this fine up, they train the issuing officer and they find Gary a place to live and a job doing what he loves to do.

There are local elections next year in wards all across the city. Write to your MP and demand they do something

Surely I can’t be the only one that feels this is wrong on every level. Share on your own page if you wish, share and comment

Anyone that wants to chip in something please feel free to do so. Many people have offered to pay the fine. NO we refuse the fine. Any money collected will be goven to Gary for a deposit on his own accomodation and hopefully a months rent until we can get him back on his feet and doing a job he would love to do cleaning the streets in the city centre and keeping it clean.

Landlords get in touch if you can help with city centre accomodation. Gary doesnt have a phone. CoventrySoul113@gmail.com

Donate if you wish. Lets do this Coventry. We demand justice for Gary

Three years ago I became homeless, Over 9 months Team Shirt Friday was born, I learned what's really happening. A government that doesnt care robbing local governments of funds to deal with what is happening on our streets. One football shirt at a time we are fighting back.
