Weʼve raised £1,625 to help fund the fabrication of a life size public sculpture of a nurse called Emily from a Leeds ICU ward who started nursing in January 2020

Funded on Saturday, 15th October 2022

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

Throighout the pandemic I kept bumping in to a friend, a nurse Jane from St James hospital in the supermarket. Jane bew of my previous work creating sculptures and drawings of people in the emergency services. It felt like a natural progression to create a nurse sculpture. Jane put me in rouch with Emily who had started nursing in January 2020. I dedicated my time (eight months) to creating the clay model and raised £1500 for materials as well as friends donating there expertise to help make the work.

The sculpture now needs to be cast using jesmonite (an exterior material) and this costs £2500. I have raised £1000 from the Leeds Phil and Lit Society and need to fundraise the remaining money.

The plan is then to exhibit the sculpture in Leeda Museums and then site it in Leeds.

Please donate to be part of this celebration of the public sector.

Hi just wanted update you all on the fabrication. I bought in all the materials and was about to start when the week before the specialist artist I was working with sadly had a stroke leaving him hospitalised until next year. I am planning to do the fabrication myself which involves training myself up. This is a knock back but I am still pursuing it but just not in the time planned. Many thanks for all your support. Best wishes Paul

This is the nurse Jane and her family at the Fundraiser on Saturday. I kept seeing Jane in the supermarket looking more and more frazzled throughout the pandemic. Thanks to all those who came and donated. Thanks to everyone who donated, without you this project would be at a standstill. Next major thing to happen will be the fabrication or making the sculpture. All the materials are ready and time has been allocated. I will post images of the process. Many thanks again- please do tell people about the project and the fundraiser page.

This is for the last push as a gift from my Dad. He was always proud of what we did as nurses and was interested to follow your progress Paul. A shame he won’t be here to see the final sculpture.

I hope creating the Jesmonite cast goes well. I look forward to seeing the final sculpture. Good luck.
