11 Rupees I have known Monu since he was 8 years old. At that time he was a Delhi street kid, rescued by his sister, who has since died, together with his brother, who has also died, from an abusive father.

He does not know about his family. where they live or anything but he still has dreams.... He is now 30 years old and wants to buy a rickshaw so he can support his future family....

Together with Rory and Zena, who have also known Monu for a long time and produced the above film, we are trying to make his dreams into reality.

This is from Zena...Dear friends, this is a last minute request. I'm raising money to help Monu get an electric rickshaw, something we promised him before lockdown intervened.

Monu, now in his 30s, was a street kid who lives in Pahar Ganj, New Delhi, who has been part of my life since 2008 where he helped me make one of my first films "11 Rupees" - I've put a link below.

So far I've raised £550 towards the £2,000 needed. The deposit for the rickshaw is £500 which we've reached. Monu will then pay the rest of the money in monthly instalments over an 18 month period. As the repayments will include interest at 30% - so effectively around 20% APR - any extra we can raise towards the deposit will help reduce the loan total and the interest paid.

If any of you can afford any small amount this will be welcomed.

Since Monu has no family - and no government safety net, owning his own electric rickshaw will help him become financially stable and give him the pride of being his own boss. Monu currently pays £5 per day for the electric rickshaw he rents so of £8 or so he earns each day, more than half goes on the rickshaw rent.

Once Monu pays off the money and owns the rickshaw he will have a chance to marry as he will have a small income that will help support his future wife and will be able to rent a room rather than sleeping rough on the streets of Delhi.

Buying this rickshaw will help give Monu a future he will be in control of. Monu just wants the chance to be able to live a normal life, so anything we can to do help, will go a long way.
